Washington/Dulles International Airport
Dulles, VA.
The project consisted of a two (2) mile long
aircraft runway with 19-inches of Portland cement
concrete paving and 18-inches of stabilized sub-base
and sub-grade. The project was on a fast track
schedule. CDDI was involved in soils stabilization
for sub-grade and compaction, concrete testing and
inspection, and full support for the QA/QC
program. In addition, CDDI has provided
miscellaneous surveying services.
Related laboratory material tests and field
inspection services are performed during the
following phase of construction:
- Monitoring all undercut
operation and backfill operation for utilities
trenches.
- Stabilization of the existing
soil material with 12 inches of soils-cement mix
as sub-base for the runway.
- Installation of 6 inches of
Cement Treated Base (CTB) and/or Asphalt
pavement as the sub-grade.
- Placement of 19 inches of
concrete pavement and concrete reinforcement.
- Placement of low strength
concrete (flowable concrete) and Asphalt
pavement for the runway shoulders.
